Question: 0/50 Time: 10:00 Score: 0 Best: 0

Our historical events quiz, with its deep question bank and 50 question sessions, is specifically designed as a powerful brain training tool for people living with dementia or those wanting to protect long term brain health.

Recalling dates, leaders, and major events strongly activates episodic and semantic memory - two systems that often decline early in Alzheimer’s and other dementias.  Each question forces the brain to search long term storage, compare options, and make decisions, exercising the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex far more effectively than passive activities like watching TV.

The random selection from 1900 - 2025 spans a lifetime of personal memories for most older adults.  When someone recognises “1969 Moon landing” or “1989 Berlin Wall”, it triggers autobiographical recall (“I remember watching it on our black and white telly”), releasing dopamine and reinforcing neural pathways.  This emotional connection dramatically improves engagement and retention compared to generic memory games.

Regular play (even 15 - 20 minutes daily) helps builds cognitive reserve – the brain’s resilience against neurodegeneration.  Studies show structured recall games like this can slow shrinkage of the hippocampus by up to 30 - 50% and maintain processing speed and executive function longer.

For dementia sufferers, we hope the instant feedback, clear scoring, and repeatable format provide achievable success and pleasure, reducing frustration while keeping the mind actively firing.  We believe it is therapy disguised as enjoyable nostalgia.
